St. Paul Lutheran’s Mission is to be an expression of God’s compassion in our community and beyond.

CONDOLENCES TO:  the family and friends of Lois Cramer who joined our Lord in eternity May 7, 2008.  Her funeral was held at St. Paul Lutheran Church on May 12, 2008. 

FLOWERS IN THE CHANCEL (foot of the cross) are given in memory of Robert Frantz from his wife, Estella and family.

This week we join in prayer with the other LARCC churches (Grace Lutheran, Trinity Episcopal, First Congregational, St. Anne, St. Mary, St. Bernard and St. John the Baptist Catholic churches) for the Women’s Circles at Grace Lutheran Church. 

Mark your calendars:  There will be Cameroon Trip Presentation on Wednesday, June 4, at      11:00 a.m. in the multi-purpose room, followed by a lunch at 12:15 p.m. in the dining room.  If you have any questions please contact Don Cantleberry at 354-5504. 

Congratulations to Nathan and Alicia (Przykucki) Cousineau on their wedding, May 17. May the Lord bless this union. 

The Besser Male Chorus and the Rotary Club of Alpena will be presenting their 61st Annual Spring Concert on Thursday, June 5, at 7:30 p.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church.  General admission is $5.00 at the door (the corner of Second and Mirre).  Profits will benefit local Rotary charities.  If you have any questions contact David Usher at 471-9182. 

Reminder:  Starting May 25th we will switch to our summer worship schedule, which is:  Saturdays –5:30 p.m. and Sundays – 8:00 a.m. & 10:00 a.m.  

Card Shower for Pastor Kurt Peterson:  On Sunday, May 25, 2008, Pastor Kurt will celebrate his 58th birthday.  (He served at St. Paul from 1989 – 1994.)   Let’s make it more than a shower, let us flood his mailbox with cards. Please send your birthday greeting AND your prayers to: Pastor Kurt Peterson, 108 Burwyck Park Drive, Saline, MI  48176.  The postmaster says it is their goal that all mail in Michigan should arrive in one day, so please try to mail by Thursday, May 22, so that he gets a truckload of cards on Friday or Saturday.  Please join us in making this a big surprise.  

The May Service Activity is Lutheran World Relief Sewing Kits.  Please include the following items in each sewing kit: three yards of 44” or 45” cotton or cotton-blend fabric; one package of 10-15 needles for hand sewing; one spool of matching thread, 300 yards, one card of 6 or more ˝” to 5/8” matching buttons.  Please leave one or more of the needed items in the provided baskets in the Narthex, hallway or Fellowship Hall.  If you have any questions please contact Sandi Owens,    356- 4038 or sowens@charter.net 

The Alpena High School and the community of faith invite you to the Baccalaureate for the class of 2008 which will be held Tuesday, May 27th at the Word of Life Baptist Church (on Bagley Street) at 7:00 p.m.  Come support and bless the Alpena High School graduates as they begin their new journeys and paths of life. 

There will be a Friday Night Supper at St. Paul Lutheran Church on May 30, to benefit Faith and Hope Hospitality House.  They will be serving from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. a pulled pork dinner with macaroni and potato salad with assorted cakes for dessert.  Adults are $7.00 and children 8 and under are $5.00.  Tickets are available in the church office.  If you have any questions please contact Theresa Stoppa at 356-1381.  (Supplemental Funding Provided by Thrivent Financial for Lutherans.) 

The Church Council packets are done and may be picked up in the Narthex.
