Reading God’s Word at Home: The Egermeier’s
Bible Story Book readings for next week are: John Preaches
in the Wilderness, page 368, and John Baptizes Jesus, page
371. Parents, will you invest ten minutes a day in your
children by reading God’s word with them? All it takes is
time. I’ll bet you’re willing to give it.
What is Christian Spirituality? There is
something wonderfully encouraging and fresh about hearing
the obvious truth stated in a down-to-earth way…could that
‘something’ be the power of the Holy Spirit? This course
will help you see how God uses ordinary sinners;…and will
take “spirituality” away from the realm of techniques and
secrets and put it right back where it belongs: in the
kitchen, bedroom, workplace and neighborhood. This course
will meet on Sundays, December 9 and 16 at 9:20 in the
multi-purpose room. Pastor Paul will be the teacher.
Questions: 356-1658.
The annual Advent Carol Sing will be held on
December 9th at St. Anne Catholic Church with prelude
beginning at 6:45 p.m. Come hear the combined choirs,
percussionists, instrumentalists and hand bells as we sing
and ring our Advent praises to God.
Particular opportunity to express Christ's
compassion: Our pastors are aware of families in need this
season. If you would like to give to help meet their need,
please speak with either Pastor Paul or Pastor Rod. God
bless your generosity.
The Long Rapids Community Chorus will present
“Gloria” arranged by Doug Holck at St. Matthew Lutheran
Church, Wolf Creek, Herron on Sunday, December 9 at 4:00
p.m.
The plans to set up and decorate the
Christmas tree are being organized by Lisa Thayer.
Volunteers are needed after the 10:30 a.m. service this
Sunday (Dec. 9).
To all of our St. Paul church family and
friends who have kept me in their prayers, Thank You. God
has healed me and I am so thankful to all of you who have
prayed for me. I am now recovered from my illness thanks to
the skilled surgeons at Mayo and all of your prayers and
thoughts. Helen Nickles
The St. Paul Christmas Program will be
December 15th at the 5:30 p.m. service. The dates for the
program practices are: December 12 at 5:30 – 6:30 p.m. and
December 14 from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. If you have any questions
please call Kristi Werth at 356-3634.
The December Service Activity is Stocking
Stuffers & Hats, Mittens and Scarves for the Salvation Army
and Sunrise Mission. Items needed: laundry bags,
deodorant, tooth brush and paste, diapers/wipes, nail
clippers/manicure items, socks (men and women) razors and
cream, notebooks, gift cards (Wal-Mart, Wendy’s, McDonalds),
hats, mittens, scarves and gloves. If you have any
questions call Mary Townsend at 595-5675. Place items in
the collection baskets in the narthex, fellowship hall or
entry into the Sanctuary.
This week we join in prayer with the other
LARCC churches (Grace Lutheran, Trinity Episcopal, First
Congregational, St. Anne, St. Mary, St. Bernard and St. John
the Baptist Catholic churches) for the Ushers Group at St.
Mary Catholic Church.
The Sixteenth Annual Christmas Church Tour
will be Thursday, December 27th from 5:30 – 8:00 p.m. Come
and enjoy the symbols, sights and sounds of the Christmas
season at local area churches. Watch for an advertisement
in an upcoming Alpena News.
St. Paul Lutheran Church Women of the ELCA is
looking for a Treasurer! The WELCA Treasurer is entrusted
with the custody of the unit’s funds, which includes
bookkeeping and transmittal of offerings. Please call
Cathy Moe, 354-2858, if you are interested or need
additional information.
The H2H Confirmation students want to take
this opportunity to convey their thanks to all who supported
the Advent Breakfast. We hope everyone enjoyed the
breakfast as much as the youth enjoyed serving it. Our
youth are truly blessed to be a part of this wonderful
congregation.
