Pastor Ron Bessert recently made a trip to
Bay St. Louis to help with rebuilding efforts that continue
after Hurricane Katrina. St. Paul congregation gave a
financial gift of $825 toward this particular need. This
gift helped the people in the Bay St. Louis community with
their reconstruction work. Pastor Ron will be at the
worship service on Saturday, the 18th of August and to do a
presentation in the dining room following the service. The
presentation will reflect the two projects which his group
worked on, the area as it is currently, and what it looked
like after the storm. Pastor Ron will also be prepared to
answer questions concerning how much still needs to be done,
and to share our tentative plans for 2008.
Fleece Blanket Project: Ellie Diamond has
agreed to head up a group of “Blanket Makers” to make
blankets for the children that pass through Shelter, Inc. to
comfort them in their time of need. We need coordinating
fleece (1 print side and 1 solid side), 1 ½ yards by the
width of the fabric or if you would prefer to give money
towards making the 20 blankets, you may drop it off at the
church office. Fabric may be left in the dining room. If
you would like additional information please contact Sandi
Johnson at 356-1589.
We are looking for people to join the prayer
chain ministry. Contact Don Smith, 354-4479, if interested.
On Sunday July 29, 2007, at 6:00 p.m. Bishop
Gary Hansen will be at Grace Lutheran Church to share the
challenges and visions discovered in his twelve years in
serving as Bishop of our Synod. He will also speak about
how the congregations of the Sunrise Conference can
participate more fully in the “To Whom Shall We Go” appeal.
This appeal of the North/West Lower Michigan Synod seeks
special giving to support seminarians, new and renewing
congregations, and a Mission Support Center. The latest
updates and information will be shared and a time for
questions will be provided. All clergy and parishioners are
invited to attend. Refreshments and dessert will be
served. For more information contact Pastor Laraine Sundin
at 471-5013.
“Down by the Riverside!” On August 2nd, a
men’s breakfast will begin meeting at the Big Boy on
Chisholm Street at 8:00 a.m. Devotions will be followed by
a leisurely breakfast. Bring a friend. Planning on 1st and
3rd week of the month. At this time open to suggestions of
time and place of future meetings. This will be discussed
at our first meeting. If possible call the church office or
Pastor Rod so we know how much space to reserve. Please
call Pastor Rod if you have any questions at 356-1658.
Mark your calendars! The Saturday, August
4th service will be at the church campgrounds (US 23 South,
across from the Birch Acre Apartments) at 5:30 p.m. A
potluck will be held at 6:30 p.m. Bring a dish to pass,
your own table setting, drinks and chairs. Call Paul
Kieliszewski at 354-4800 if you have any questions.
The Christmas Bazaar is fast approaching so
be sure to mark your calendars for November 3rd. A startup
planning bazaar meeting is scheduled for August 13th at 7:00
p.m. in room 201. If you are interested in helping with
this year’s bazaar please join us. Remember when you are
doing your canning for the year, please set aside some for
the church’s bazaar. Pint jars are needed for bazaar
canning items if you have extra. Hope to see you there.
Call Lori Ludwig if you have any questions at 354-4753.
This week we join in prayer with the other
LARCC churches (Grace Lutheran, Trinity Episcopal, First
Congregational, St. Anne, St. Mary, St. Bernard and St. John
the Baptist Catholic churches) for the Funeral Service
Groups at St. Paul Lutheran Church.
Reading God’s Word at Home: The Egermeier’s
Bible Story Book readings for next week are: Gideon and the
Fleece, page 158, Gideon Attacks the Midianites, page 159,
and Hagar and Ishmael, page 32. Parents, will you invest
ten minutes a day in your children by reading God’s word
with them? All it takes is time. I’ll bet you’re willing to
