PREPARING TO SERVE: Ready? Set? Minister!
Riding a bike or using a new computer program or learning
how to use your new camera. Training is important whenever
anyone learns a new skill. Training is important in Stephen
Ministry too. Before Stephen Leaders and Stephen Ministers
begin their work, they go through a lot of training. When
they start their official ministry they are ready. A new
training class for Stephen Ministers is beginning soon. To
find out more information about what this ministry has to
offer, contact a pastor or call Gail at 354-6959, Judy at
595-2247, or Iris at 354-2553. Do it today!
The June Service Activity is soap. Lutheran
World Relief works in 35 countries to provide not only
relief but to combat the causes of poverty and restore the
dignity it robs from people’s lives. A brand new bar of
soap signals dignity and cleanliness. Lutheran World Relief
accepts new bars of any brand soap, in its original
wrapping. All bar sizes are accepted; however, bath-size
bars are highly preferred. Please drop off your donations
of soap in the designated spots in the Narthex, Dining Room
and top of stairs. Questions: Sandi Owens – 356-4039 or
sowens @charter.net
Acolytes are needed for the summer. If you
would like to volunteer please contact Val Urban at
356-4613, or the church office at 356-1658.
About St. Paul’s Eucharistic Ministry:
Christianity is essentially a lay movement. Think about
that for a moment. Long before there were ever ordained
pastors, Christians were gathering to hear the word and
share the Lord’s Supper. We have in our congregation now
trained lay people who will help extend the Lord’s Supper,
extend God’s table, if you will, to our homebound members
who are not able to come to God’s house. These folks will
see that more regular visits are paid to our shut-ins and
that they have a chance to be nourished at God’s table. So,
the first weekend of each month, you’ll see the communion
kits that they will use out on the altar. We will bless the
Eucharistic Ministers present at the service and then
everyone will be sent out to “Serve the Lord with gladness.”
Again, this ministry is an extension of the meal that we
share here together. We still need more Eucharistic
Ministers. If you have questions or want to learn more,
please contact Gerry Ludwig, 356-1059, or Pastor Paul (paul@stpaul.org),
356-1658.
