This week we join in prayer with the other
LARCC churches (Grace Lutheran, Trinity Episcopal, First
Congregational, St. Anne, St. Mary, St. Bernard and St. John
the Baptist Catholic churches) for the Women’s Circles at
Grace Lutheran Church.
Would you like to help? Sometimes there are
older adults in the congregation who need someone to sit
with them in their home…on a short-term, case-by-case
basis. For example, a husband who takes care of an aging
wife at home may need someone to come and stay for a couple
hours while he runs errands or takes a break. We are not
talking “skilled care” here…just the kind of basic
compassion Christ calls for when he said “love your
neighbor…and care for orphans and widows in their distress”
(Mt. 19:19, James 1:27). If you can help, please call Kathy
Froggett at 356-0934 (work) or 354-7126 (home).
The May Service Activity is collecting items
for Pastor Ron and Alice Bessert’s mission trip in June to
Bay St. Louis, MS, to help the victims of Hurricane
Katrina. Items needed are Home Depot and Lowe’s gift
cards. You may drop your envelope in the offering plate or
mail to the church office (727 S. Second Avenue, Alpena, MI
49707). We will purchase the gift cards for those wanting
to send cash. If you have any questions contact Pastor Ron
via email at bessert2@aol.com or call Sue Keyes at 742-8075.
Thank you to all members of St. Paul who
participated in the May 9 blood drive sponsored by our
congregation. We exceeded our goal and collected a total of
60 units of blood. Ann Hardesty
The WELCA Spring general meeting is Monday,
May 21st. The meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. with guest
speaker Phil Duranceau, from J & J. Garden Center. Esther
Circle will be hosts. If you have any questions please
contact Cathy Moe at 354-2858.
Attention Children’s Choir supporters! The
3rd-6th grade children’s choir will wrap up their singing
season this Wednesday, May 23rd at 7:00 pm. Rehearsal
begins at 6:30, the short concert at 7:00 will be in the
church and pizza and pop will follow downstairs in the
dining hall. We’d love to fill the church will family and
friends to encourage these young ones in their faith. If
you plan to attend, please RSVP to Julie after service today
or call the office by Tuesday so we have plenty of food for
us all. Thank you!
USING YOUR SPIRITUAL GIFTS: Spiritual gifts
are gifts to give away. God gives them to us, and we use
them to serve others. How are you using your gifts right
now? Are you looking for a new way to use them? If your
spiritual gifts include one or more of the following –
faith, mercy, teaching the faith, encouragement, or knowing
– consider Stephen Ministry, our congregation’s one-to-one
caregiving ministry. This may be just what you have been
looking for! Contact a pastor or Gail, 354-6959, Judy,
595-2247, or Iris, 354-2553 to learn more about Stephen
Ministry.
Acolytes are needed for the summer. If you
would like to volunteer please contact Val Urban at
356-4613, or the church office at 356-1658.
Reading God’s Word at Home: The Egermeier’s
Bible Story Book readings for next week are: Jesus’ Last
Meeting with His Disciples, page 488, Saul Escapes in a
Basket, page 513, and The Philippian Jailer, page 532.
Parents, will you invest ten minutes a day in your children
by reading God’s word with them? All it takes is time. I’ll
bet you’re willing to give it.
Coffee Hour: WELCA is doing coffee hour for
the month of May. There will be no coffee hour in June,
July, and August unless you would like to volunteer. Call
Sandy Froggett with questions at 358-0118.
MARK YOUR CALENDARS: The Vacation Bible
School dates are set for June 17 – 21, from 6:00 p.m. –
9:00 p.m. The children are again going to be giving back to
the community fleece blankets. We need donations of
coordinating pairs of fleece that measure 1 ½ yards by the
full width of the fleece. If you have any questions please
contact Kristi Werth at 356-3634.
